We hope you can join us starting on January 12, 2025 when Mary Marx will begin leading us through a discussion of David Miller’s book, The New Polytheism. David Miller is a well-loved teacher (Syracuse and Pacifica) and widely published author in religion, myth, depth psychology, and literary theory. According to Miller, monotheism wants everyone’s “explanation systems (e.g., theological, historical, psychological) under one all-embracing system … a single center that holds things together.” In contrast, polytheistic thinking frees us from having “to get it all together.” It is Miller’s premise that the “psyche” is polytheistic, with “multiple potencies, and structures of meaning and being.” As such, this approach better matches the plurality of our lived experience.
As always, Book Club is a free program for our members. But, in order to get the Zoom link, you need to register. So please scroll below to do so via the RSVP.
